Broken Wrist...

Well, it has happened again, only 8 months later
than Gavin, Macey broke her arm yesterday!  We have
a gate at the top of our stairs so it has to be unlocked
for her to go down.  Keith was down working in the
office and I was cleaning the kitchen.  She started
going down just like she does probably 5 times or more
a day.  She was eating a cracker at the same time and
turned to tell me something and lost her balance and fell
down 2 or three steps.  She landed with her arms straightened
and started crying immediately.  Keith and I both ran to her
and she cried for a little bit but nothing hysterical.  We didn't
know where she was hurting for a little while because we
moved all of her parts and she never acted like anything
hurt when we moved it.  I tried putting her down a couple
of times while she was still fussing and she kept picking up
her left arm and holding it in to her belly.  Basically like she
was carrying it.  She was fine if she held it like that, but if
she would let it hang, she would start crying again saying
"hurting, hurting."  It was right at her nap time and she was
acting so exhausted so I just rocked her and let her sleep
on me for an hour and a half.  Once she woke up, I put
her down to play and she started carrying her arm again
and would cry if she let it hang.  I met Keith up at school and
picked up Blake to come help me and we headed to Providence
Urgent Care.  As soon as we got there, Macey got on the floor and
started digging snacks out of the diaper bag and was using her
left arm for lots of things.  She was happy and excited because
she asks for a popsicle every time we go there.  We got into the
exam room and the Dr. (new lady) examined her.  She literally pulled
and yanked and tugged on Macey's arm.  She said "I just feel bad even
charging you for an xray when there is obviously not a broken bone."
She said "I watched her face when I was examining her and she didn't
flinch or widen her eyes or anything!"  She said I am going to go ahead and
send you home and save you some money.  I asked if we could do one
just in case so we wouldn't be stuck going to the E.R. later that night.
(It was not the best experience with Gavin.  We were there forever and
they treat you like you are a child abuser.)  The doctor agreed and we
headed back.  After the xray, the guy who did it told me to come look
at it.  Sure enough I could see the buckle fracture just like when Gavin
had his.  Macey's bone in her wrist was bowing out.  Everyone there
was shocked and they ALL had to come in the room to check out the
2 year old with crazy super high pain tolerance.  They were all amazed
they she hadn't even wimpered during the exam.  I explained that Gavin has
the same thing and only cried 5 minutes after he fell off a 10 foot concrete
wall.  They went ahead and did the temporary cast and then the nurse
decided atleast the cast should be "pretty".  My favorite nurse there, Hailey,
wrapped the cast in pink tape and covered it in Princess stickers.
We were referrred to an orthopedic doctor and I am supposed to call
them on Monday.  I am hoping that maybe we can get by with a 3 week
cast.  Who knows?  We shall see.

Macey has done well with the cast today, but she just looks puzzled when
she tries to figure out how to do things with one hand.  They didn't
get the cast in between her fingers and thumb, so she has no use
of her left hand hardly at all.  Here is Macey at Urgent Care.  Even
though she wasn't smiling, as soon as she saw my phone, she started
saying "cheeeeeeese".

She got extra stickers too, a popsicle, and a piece of candy.  We love
Providence Urgent Care!!!
